18 Household Items That You Didn’t Know They Have an Expiry Date!

Some basic household products that we all have around the house actually have an expiry date. Here are 18 items that have an actual expiry date.
Toothbrush, 3 months

The toothbrush is a being used at least twice a day and it’s prone to germs and bacteria. It is highly recommended to change your toothbrush after 3 months or after you have been sick with the fly.

Towel, 1-3 years

Wet towels are a great environment for bacteria to spread.

Fire extinguisher, 15 years

If the fire extinguisher is damaged in the hose or it has dents on it, replace it as soon as possible.

Pillows, 2 to 3 years

It is recommended to change pillows after 2 to 3 years, you should replace your pillow with a new one as the old one tends to lose its shape as the time goes by. Also, it’s prone to tearing due to the constant tossing and turning.

Slippers, 6 months

Slippers are the perfect surrounding for fungal infections. So, make sure you wash them on a regular basis, either in the washing machine or by hand. And, replace them with new ones after 6 months or so.

Sponge, 2 months, shower pouf, 6 months

They breed fungus and mold, so you should soak them in boiling water on a regular basis to destroy growing bacteria.

Hairbrush, a year

You should clean the hairbrush once per week and replace it with a new one every year.

Perfume, 1 to 3 years

When closed, perfumes with essential oils can last up to 3 years, whereas the opened ones last for 2 years. On the other hand, eau de toilette can last for 4 years when closed and 2 years when opened.

Pacifier, 2 to 5 weeks

Latex pacifier needs to be replaced after 2 to 5 weeks since the latex easily breaks and the cracks breed germs.

Child car seats, 6 to 10 years

With time, the foam and plastic deteriorate, so the seat loses its shape and it no longer protects the child.

Bra, 1 to 2 years

As soon as your bra starts to lose its shape and elasticity, it means that you need a new one.

Running shoes, a year

The cushioning begins to break down and causes unnecessary stress onto the joints.

Spices, 1 to 3 years

You shouldn’t keep ground spices for more than 6 months. Other spices lose their smell and taste over a period of 2 or 3 years.

Flour, 6 to 12 months

High-grade flour can be stored for a period of 1 year, whereas first-grade flour for 6 months.

Power strips, 1 to 2 years

Exceeding the capacity many causes other serious problems with power. Therefore, never plug in too many devices and replace the plug with a new one every 2 years.

Disinfectant, 3 months

After this period, they are no longer effective as they were in the beginning.

Mosquito repellents, 2 years

Same as the case with the disinfectants, mosquito repellents are of no use after 2 years.
